Alllll aboard!! Listen, I don’t want any bandwagon fans hopping on mid-season. Speak now, or forever hold your peace. The 2010 Miami Hurricanes are like a f’n powder keg ready to explode. D Line depth is insane. Their ability to disrupt offenses will make our secondary (the weak spot in 2009) look much better. Offensively, as long as Jacory stays healthy, we’ll be fine. Yes, the O Line will have to gel quickly, but there is athleticism in that unit that leads us to believe that will happen. The wide receiver depth is the best in years. And, you already know how we feel about Damien Berry carrying the ball.-
There are a couple whispers around the college football landscape. People are starting to notice what Coach Shannon has done. They saw the youth and raw talent the past few years. And now, the expectations are elevated. There are some that see the 2010 Canes as potential national title contenders. Most, however, still view them as being a year away, citing a lack of leadership. F that. With experience comes leadership, and now the core talent on this team are upperclassmen. Here at CanesPundit, we’re expecting no more than one or two losses. But what has us so inspired is the potential for this team to run the table. That’s right. 12-0. This year, it IS possible. Last year, as I was walking out of Doak Campbell Stadium after a heart pounding win, I turned to my friend who is an FSU fan and said, “It’s tough someone had to lose that game. You can take some consolation in knowing that both teams are probably losing multiple games this year.” I knew the Hurricanes weren’t ready. Was I hoping they were? Sure. But I knew better. This year, though, it’s a little different. The talent is there. The depth that they lacked in years past is there. Can they step up? Can Randy Shannon coach this team to win consistently without letdowns? We think so. Our staff predictions call for no less than 10 or 11 wins, and that was before all world tackle Seantrel Henderson signed. Call it the orange and green goggles or maybe we’re drinking the Shannon Kool Aid, but he now has all the tools to succeed.

I don’t want to see our page views jump after an Ohio State win. Get on board now, or don’t get on at all. If you’re a true Canes fan, you’ve stuck with this team during the down years. The 1997 loss at Pitt. The 48-0 blowout to Virginia in 2007. Now it is time to reap the rewards. We have not seen such an accumulation of talent since the 2003 team. Speed? I don’t know if there’s been a faster team in the history of the Hurricanes, and that’s saying something. The lone question that remains is leadership and psyche. Can this team focus week in and week out and believe that they can beat the Ohio States and Virginia Techs of the world? We’re on board and say they can. Are you on board? If not, don’t try and come on later. Doors lock on September 2nd.

one thing im worried about is say we beat ohio state how to keep the players from getting cocky because you know how much hype theyll have after that.
I dont think they will. They learned that last year. But your right a lot of people will jump on the bandwagon, just like the late 90′s everyone was on the FSU wagon then people jumped on miami’s wagon in the early 2000′s, now i see people i know all on Florida’s. All I tell them is dont jump back on Miami ship. BECAUSE THE U IS BACK!!!!!
If you haven’t rooted for the canes from 2004-present then PLEEEAAAAASSSEEE don’t hop on board this season. I like this article. True cane fans have been here through thick and thin and many a insult and criticism from other fans.
It’s hard to talk trash when the team you root for is 5-7 and getting blown out.
Now people see the talent and they feel the energy so they are going to want to ride the caboose!
Doors closed on September 2nd!
I completely resonate with your core message……that is the incredible potential this team has. For example the potential actualized by Hankerson last year carried the offense at times. Just think if we have one or more step up this year on offense/defense what an impact that can have…..AND THERE ARE SO MANY POTENTIAL CANDIDATES TO BECOME IMPACT PLAYERS.
My only concerns are commonly mentioned by others: linebackers/oline.
I expect Jacory to really step it up and compete for the Heisman if the oline permits it.
I would predict 10 – 2 unless something catastrophic happens.
Agree with everyone here. Mark, you’re probably right with the record, though if Jacory and our linebackers stay healthy, there is potential for even greater things. Even Shannon, who is normally tight lipped, has hinted at his great expectations this year. mike has a good point in that an OSU win (very possible) might get to their heads (dangerous with a road game at Pitt next), but hopefully this team learned their lesson after the Oklahoma win last year.
As of right now, I’m calling for 9-3, and hoping that will be enough to win the Coastal.
Now I’m sure everyone is thinking,”Duh…………..We were 9-3 last year. We’re better than we were last year. Right?”
While that is accurate in theory, and there is a soft spot in me that feels that way as well, I’m still not 100% sure we will get ten or more outta this schedule. Coach has yet to put together back-to-back quality performances (at least against decent opponents) in a season, such as consecutive USF games, or repeat GT showings.
Consistency.
Haven’t shown any of that since at least that mini-run we had in 05′ after the FSU loss.
I’ve previously stated that I feel much more confident against next year’s projected schedule, than this one. By then, the only question marks on this team should be CB…….And that’s only if B Harris leaves early.
All that being said I agree that this team potentially COULD get to 10-2, tops. But until I see at least two complete performances in a row, (and again, I’m not counting vs FAMU and then Charleston Southern) I ain’t betting the house.
Hurriphin, I’m in the 10-2 boat, and while I think 9-3 is way more believable than 12-0, the one thing you have to remember is this team is not like the ’08 and ’09 teams. The lack of depth in the past killed us, and we actually have decent depth now (save for LB and QB). The schedule is brutal, but on paper we should be favored in nearly every game save for OSU.
I like your attitude and your writing fires me up! I previously posted that I think the U goes 10-2 or 11-1. I think they lose one in the ACC and @ OSU is a toss up. I am worried about VT and Clemson, the first because they are always a tough out and the second because it is the third away game in a row. UNC and FSU are always close, but I think we get them this year with a vastly improved D.
I have watched every game since 1986. I think this team is like that 2000 team that should have played OU for the title.
LongTimeCanesFan…wow, what a great analogy. The ’99 Canes were 9-4 and that was with Kenny Kelly at the helm. 2000 Hurricanes were young, but still had some upperclassmen leadership (finally)…Dan Morgan…Ed Reed…Moss and Wayne. They lost 1 game and probably would have been undefeated if Portis started over James Jackson. I can totally see the same type of transformation this year.
Wtf is 2004? That seems arbitrary. Anyway, I think 11-1, with that loss at Pitt. Fuck Ohio State. I dropped the ‘The’ on purpose for all the OSU fans that came here for their green & orange fix. The U’s got that one.
LETS GO MIAMI 2010 NATL CHAMPS
Hey loser Miami fans you were bitching and moaning a few weeks ago that Ohio State did not send you enough tickets and you did not even use all the tickets OSU sent you.Miami had to return unsused
tickets. Are you kidding me?? Minnesota uses all the tickets we send them. Your fan base is a joke, the lamest in the country.
Wait till 2011 when 60% of your tiny stadium is full of scarlet and grey and there is nothing you can do to stop it!!!
